Cupping massage has been around for decades and was made popular through Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are various types of cups that can be used, I primarily use the glass cups (also known as fire cupping) and silicon cups (also called Baguanfa cups). Both types of cups offer the same benefits, each just has a slightly different application depending on the area and condition being treated. Most people describe the feeling of cupping very similar to massage and some prefer it to the manual techniques of Therapeutic Massage. When the cups are applied to the tissue they create a vacuum like seal on the body, thus sucking up the underlying tissues and creating a stretch effect. The cups can be moved or left stationary, again depending on the area and condition being treated. The marks left from cupping are not bruises like most assume, but are stagnation (toxins, cellular debris, lactic acid, etc) that the cups bring up from the underlying tissue to the lymphatic system (that sits just below your skin layer) so that the lymphatic system can process it.
