Relaxation vs Therapeutic Massage

What is Relaxation Massage?

Relaxation Massage, sometimes also known as Swedish Massage, uses gentle and calming techniques to relax the mind and the body. Typically, the whole body is done during a Relaxation Massage but, specific areas can be focused on to ease mild discomfort and promote healthy circulation. This type of massage is a perfect way to show yourself some self-care and can promote a healthy lifestyle.

What are the benefits of Relaxation Massage?

Deep tissue massage offers both physical and psychological benefits. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, deep tissue massage helps to treat muscle pain and improve stiffness, but it can still help to you unwind mentally, too. A 2014 study involving 59 participants found that deep tissue massage helped to reduce pain in people with chronic low back. The authors likened its effects to those of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen (Advil).

Benefits of Relaxation Massage:

  • Super relaxing, decreases stress
  • Promotes the sympathetic nervous to settle down
  • Increase healthy circulation to the muscles and their structures

  • Temporarily decrease blood pressure
  • And much more!

The techniques used in this type of massage are much deeper, they go below the superficial level of the tissues, unlike Relaxation Massage. Sometimes, these techniques and the pressure can be uncomfortable but should never be unbearably painful.
